Interpreting and Participating in Shakespeare’s Plays

Reading Henry IV, Part One and The Merry Wives of Windsor carefully, attending to dramatic texture and poetic nuance; and seeing and thinking about productions are the main class activities, along with examining the design of ideas and the progression of feelings as they build. Previous experience with Shakespeare is not necessary.

Instructor Bio:

An independent academic and English teacher, Henry McHenry graduated from Yale; and has taught for years in the Upward Bound program. He holds a PhD in English Language, Literature, and Pedagogy from UVA.

Required Reading:

Any text of the two plays:  Henry IV, Part One and The Merry Wives of Windsor.   The inexpensive Signet editions have excellent supplementary material.
