Six Feature Films
This course will feature six films in different genres, created over the past sixty years, which illustrate diverse aspects of life in America.
A River Runs Through It 1992. Norman Maclean’s remembrance of growing up in western Montana, schooled in the "3 Rs" and the art of fly casting.
Cross Creek 1983. The origin of the book The Yearling.
The Visitor 2008. An undocumented couple occupy a professor’s apartment.
The Good Lie 2014. Siblings adapt to America after surviving the Sudanese civil war.
King of the Hill 1993. A twelve year old negotiates the Great Depression on his own.
In America 2003. Poignant tale based on Irish writer-director Jim Sheridan’s family experiences emigrating to United States.
Hal Horan is a retired Presbyterian minister who has taught sixteen previous OLLI courses.
