Christianity and the Holocaust: Complicity and Resistance

This course will explore the role of Christianity in the events leading up to the Holocaust, the resistance to Hitler shown by such figures as Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and will then focus on how post-Holocaust theology has shaped both Christianity and Judaism.

Instructor Bio:

Jeffrey Pugh was a professor of Religious Studies at Elon University from 1986 to 2018. He has written six books, with two more currently in process, as well as numerous book chapters, articles and reviews on Christianity and the Holocaust. Most particularly, his work has focused on Christian responsibility for the rise of Nazism.
