The Basics of Fly-tying for Beginners


The course will present a brief history of artificial fly use followed by discussion of the terms, tools, and materials used. Participants will learn how to tie some of the flies most commonly used in the trout waters of Virginia and will progress from the easier to tie flies, gradually accumulating skill sets that enable them to move toward more difficult to tie flies. Note: This course has an additional cost of $30 for consumable supplies to be paid to the instructor at the first class. Tools and supplies will be provided.

Instructor Bio:

This course will be taught by four members of the Thomas Jefferson Chapter of Trout Unlimited: Bill Lucia, James Damron, Mike Fischer, and John Edelen. The instructors have combined fly-fishing and tying experience of over 150 years.
