The Physiology and Philosophy of Positive Aging
This course will highlight our understanding of the aging process with emphasis on cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Participants will take a virtual biking trip across Europe from the comfort of their own chair, at their own pace - even if that is just sitting still. We will discuss willpower, health behavior, the connections between pleasure and happiness, and the role of each in a good life. Finally, we will discuss the role of genetics and epigenetics in positive aging. NOTE: This course meets on five consecutive days.
John Burt, PhD, is a retired professor and dean of public health, author of three textbooks and twenty-five research papers. Richard B. Elder, MBA, focuses on consumer behavior, environmental issues, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
