War Presidents 1800-1945
This course will discuss six presidents who served the United States in wartime: James Madison, James K. Polk, Abraham Lincoln, William McKinley, Woodrow Wilson, and Franklin Roosevelt. For each president, we will delve into the reasons for the particular war, how the president dealt with the issues at hand, and the outcomes for the United States and other countries involved. Note: This course does not meet on Wednesday, November 21.
Charles T. Demek graduated from Loyola University in 1967 with a BA in history and philosophy. During the Vietnam era, he served in the Army Security Agency. He attended Duquesne University and George Washington University for graduate studies. He taught American history for 23 years in Northern Virginia. He is married and has two daughters.
