Transcendence, Well-Being and Positive Aging

This is a discussion-based course that will explore the relationship between "meaning making" and longevity. The course will explore several older wisdom traditions (Platonism, Buddhism and American Transcendentalists) and their impact on twenty-first century life. We will seek answers to open-ended questions. Are human beings wired for transcendence? Is there a place in our busy lives for higher consciousness? How have different cultures experienced the “highest”? How can experiencing higher states significantly transform a person’s life? (We will start with this.) Note: This course does not meet on Wednesday, November 21.
