What is Liberalism and Why is it Failing?

Liberalism is an ideology which has had a stunning success in the West for the past 300 years. Now liberalism in the democracies of Europe and America is under threat politically from globalization, populism and economic inequality. How can we understand these threats to liberalism which come mainly from within and how might they be withstood? This course will look at a wide variety of recent writings on why liberalism in the West is in retreat.
