Listening: “What Did You Say?”
Listening is a skill that is used every day in our lives. How many people could be better listeners? Ironically, for a skill that is so important and used so much, most people have never had any training or guidance in developing the skill. Listening, like speaking, can be developed and strengthened through understanding and practice. In this course the instructor will present a simple model of the communication process. Thereafter, there will be “one-on-one” student interaction, small group interaction, and some large group discussion. Throughout the course there will be many opportunities to practice new skills.
Richard Mason has a BA in American Literature from Middlebury College and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from California State University. During his career, in addition to consulting, he has taught classes in active listening, group dynamics, facilitation, leading effective meetings, stress management, and conflict resolution.
Handouts will be provided.
