Following major renovations, the vintage 1836 Greek Revival “Old Patent Office Building” in Washington, DC opened in 1968 as permanent home for two Smithsonian museums, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery. OLLI invites you to spend a fall Saturday visiting this historic building and the National Portrait Gallery where according to the website–“It’s always facetime."
We’ll see the diverse story of America through the leaders, rebels, artists, entrepreneurs, and other personalities who shaped the nation. One of the National Portrait Gallery’s major attractions is the “America’s Presidents” exhibit which showcases multiple images of the past 44 U.S. presidents, starting with Washington and continuing to Barack Obama. Portraits of former President Barack Obama and Mrs. Michelle Obama were unveiled in February 2018.
